Free credit freeze benefits

are finally here!

Congress recently passed a law – the Economic Growth, Regulatory Relief, and Consumer Protection Act – that requires the three credit bureaus to provide a credit freeze at no cost to the consumer.  The FTC posted links to those new webpages on IdentityTheft.gov.  Many states already required the credit bureaus to provide free credit freezes, but it had not been a nationwide requirement, until now!  This new requirement took effect September 21, 2018.  This is a great cost-free way to help protect your identity!

In addition to free credit freezes, the law also allows parents to freeze their children’s credit.  Theft of children’s identity is a growing crime and often preferred by thieves as their crimes won’t be noticed until the child is an adult!  These freeze’s are also at no cost.
